About Me & Fun Facts:

Hello! My name is Brett Collins and I serve as the Program Manager in the Office of DEI, and as co-instructor of the INT95 series for Promise Scholars and First Generation Students! I proudly identify as a queer and first-generation college graduate and my passions lie within serving first-generation and LGBTQIA+ identified students, building affirming and durable communities, and agitating for justice in our classrooms and workplaces.

Fun Facts:

I am fluent in two dead languages, I love swimming with manatees, and my cat once went viral on Tik Tok.

Tampa, FL

Education:

B.A. History from University of South Florida 
Post-baccalaureate from University of Pennsylvania
M.A. and Ph.D. in Classics from UCSB

Interests & Specialty Areas:

Histories of white supremacy, queer theory, masculinity studies, student success initiatives, holistic mentorship, curriculum design, critical pedagogy, community organizing, zines and independent publishing, and drag performance.

What I can do for our community:

In my capacity as Program Manager, I love collaborating with students, staff, and faculty to design and deliver impactful programs for our campus community. If you have an idea for a DEI event/program/initiative, reach out!

As an instructor, I help first generation students build the skills, confidence, and community necessary to succeed at UCSB, but more importantly needed to cultivate thriving lives.
